About the blog

Soum Khao blog shows and shares my Lao culture in the Lao cuisine area. There is much information about Lao food and dessert, what it is, ingredients, and equipment used in cooking. Apart from these, there are 10 traditional Lao recipes that I recommend trying when visiting or traveling in Laos and learning how to cook those recipes. The food and dessert are authentic. Each recipe on the blog page includes a place to find and access those foods and desserts if you are interested. Lao food is shared meals and eating together with family members and friends, so I want to share delicious recipes with you like sharing food!

In addition, I created this blog for my personal project. According to the MYP personal project handbook for students and supervisors, “a personal project provides an opportunity for students to undertake an independent and age-appropriate exploration into an area of personal interest. Through the process of inquiry, action, and reflection, students are encouraged to demonstrate and strengthen their approaches to learning (ATL) skills.”

All About Me

Cooking and eating is something I passionately about it. I grew up in Laos. I grew up with Lao food, snacks, and dessert, and it is something that I am close to. When I was a young child, I liked to observe my parents and grandma cooking with impressive style, and it tasted super delicious. As I grew up and was able to help prepare the meal with my parents and my grandparents. It was a lovely experience, and I will never forget it. They are my inspiration to start to cook by myself, and I also want to eat my favorite food, tam mak hoong, from my own hand so, I begin to ask my grandparents and parents about the steps and ingredients to make tam mak hoong. Every meal that I learn, I like to share it with my family members, and I love to see their reaction after tasting my food. When it was delicious, I jumped around the house, and a big smile was on my face. When it did not taste good, I was felt down and wanted to improve it. Now, I learn new recipes from observing, helping with preparing food, and watching the video clips to improve my cooking skills. I help with cooking in the kitchen, cooking for family and myself, and sometimes I like to adapt different foods together and experiment by myself to come up with new dishes and match my preferred flavor.
